One Book, One Community, Multigenerational

Other communities have held community reads programs, however our Shorewood program is unique in inviting several generations to participate.  The Friends of the Shorewood Library discussed hosting a community reads event and the title Montana 1948 was a possible reading choice.  Since I still have a son at the high school, I knew that this title was required reading for the freshman class and suggested that we partner with the high school.  The idea was enthusiastically received by the group.  I pitched the idea to the head of the English department, Eric Geitzen, and he and the other teachers could not have been more supportive.  They agreed to lead the community discussion groups and encourage their students to participate in all events.  Many area book clubs has decided to add this title to their reading lists and groups such as the Shorewood Woman’s Club and the Senior Resource Center have agreed to participate.
